What a day!  Thru the rest of Minnesota and into North Dakota. Route 2 is an interstate type road in North Dakota so travel was easy for quite a while. The land is fairly flat with some rolling hills.  The entire landscape was dotted with rolled hay bales but very little livestock. Makes one wonder what they hay will be used for?  Most, but not all the roads intersecting route 2 were dirt and straight  And straight was the condition of the day......straight roads intersecting at right angles. Things got interesting when we got near Minot. We were advised by truckers to not continue to Williston on route 2 because the oil drilling traffic would be a mess. So we drove to Minot and stopped in a parking lot to discuss strategy. Employees at the parking lot advised us to go south on route 83 and then west on 23 to Newtown. This took us into the heart of the drilling area with lots of rigs, tanker truck and other oil stuff. It just made a mess of the landscape..... Not to mention traffic and congestion. And then we got to Newtown with all the oil workers on a Friday evening. What a mess! There are only about 700,000 people in all of North Carolina and I think they were all in Newtown! Newtown was dusty, dirty and rundown. And we still had to find a place to stay. So here we are at the 4 Bears Casino in the last two rooms available at an outrageous price. Oh ya, the price of gas was 4.30 per gallon in the middle of the oil production area. So tomorrow......Montana and on to Glacier National Park. Hope it doesn't snow.
